[i.code] 2019

Theme

I Code To Contribute.

In line with Singapore Bicentennial, “From Singapore to Singaporean”, this edition of [i.code] competition focuses on promoting social capital and community development. Young aspiring developers will learn to use App Inventor to create cool mobile apps to tackle community concerns such as ageing population, cybersecurity, financial literacy and multiculturalism.

Important Dates

Registration period 27 May – 25 June 2019
Registration extended till 3 July 2019
App Inventor training workshop 27 or 28 June 2019 (1pm – 5pm)
Plus 5 July 2019 (1pm – 5pm)
Preliminary Round Submission 2 Aug 2019
Announcement: list of finalists 8 Aug 2019
Finals & Award Ceremony 16 Aug 2018

Competition Format

Upon registration, each team will be randomly assigned one of the community concerns including ageing population, cybersecurity, financial literacy and multiculturalism.

There are two rounds of judging for this competition – Preliminary round and Finals.

Preliminary round
– Participants will submit a Demo Video and Poster for judging by 2 August 2019.
i) Demo Video – A 5 minute video to illustrate the community concerns and the prototype of the mobile application.
ii) A2 size poster – An A2 size poster to describe the problem statement, overview of the mobile application solution, it’s impact and targeted outcome.

Finals
– 30 teams will be shortlisted as finalists.
– Finalists will fine tune their work for Finals on 16 Aug 2019.
– Each team will be given 5 minutes to demonstrate their solution to the judges.
– Judging criteria for preliminary and final rounds are as follows:

Criteria Weightage Attribute
Creativity 25% – creativity and novelty of the idea
Application 25% – relevance, ease of use and user experience
Potential Impact 25% – the extent of benefits for the intended user
Presentation 25% – effectiveness of the video and poster (preliminary) / final presentation (finals)

Selected finalists will showcase their work at the POSB PAssion Run For Kids carnival on 15 Sep 2019.
